Sprint PCS Wireless Web Connection Kit with cell phone to USB data cable and application software (Sprint PCS Connection Manager and Sprint PCS Business Connection) for Sprint cellular phones contains all hardware and software necessary to use your PCS Phone as a wireless modem.
Connect to Sprint PCS Wi-Fi Access and the enhanced Sprint Nationwide PCS Network for convenient access to information. The USB cable included is a true USB cable, meaning that the cord has USB connector on one end, and the other end is your phone connector. This is a straight USB to wireless phone connection. You may see some other cables which are USB to Serial cables, which have a square box in the middle of the cord that supposedly convert the USB connection to a serial connection on the phone side. However, USB to serial cable may be slower than this true USB cable. Using it is simple. Simply connect the phone to the cable and PC, then click on the Connection Manager executable and it automatically signs you in, etc. The phone will still take SMS messages while online for PC. It will still ring when receiving incoming telephone calls but will not disconnect you unless you answer the calls. After a call is completed, the Connection Manager automatically re-connects to the Vision network right way!
Installation should be easy as well. The directory on the CD is: \drivers\PHONE BRANDdrivers\. Select "setup.exe" file and in a few clicks it will install your phone drivers. Then connect the USB data cable to the laptop, and the other end to your cellphone. The PC will proceed to immediately configure the USB connection such that your cellular phone is recognized as another modem. Then create a dial-up connection for your mobile phone. Using the Network Connection Wizard, set the local number to #777. Then set the username to your Vision user name, and the password to your Vision user password. A few more clicks and it would all be set up. Then simply click on the Sprint USB dial up connection, and it will connect very quickly, much faster than most dial up modems via analog phone lines. The connection speed may be around 115.2kbps, which is roughly double the optimum analog dial-up connection, or 3-4 times the average dial-up connection speed of 40kbps. Latency is not too bad. Vision connection can be atleast twice as fast as any dial up you may have used, and even in comparison to your cable modem it may be quite fast. All web sites you navigate to will come up with no difference than if you were on a broadband connection.

Installation:
1. Insert the PCS Connection Manager Software CD-ROM into a compatible drive.
2. Install the PCS Connection Manager Software. Upgrade software from www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/support/downloads/index.jsp.
3. Connect your PCS Phone to the Windows laptop using the included USB data cable.
Connecting to the Internet:
Using PCS Connection Manager Software, there are two ways to connect to the Internet”
Use the high-speed functionality provded by PCS Vision
Connecting to a service that requires a phone number.
The connection provided by PCS Vision does not require a third party ISP, while connections to a phone number do involve a third party ISP. PCS Vision provides significantly faster network speeds than the connection to a phone number. However, you might need to use a connection to a phone number to use certain non-Sprint software provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Connecting Using PCS Vision:
1. Start PCS Connection Manager Software, if it is not already running, by clicking on the desktop shortcut.
2. Click “GO”.
Connecting to a service that requires a phone number
1. Click the Menu button and select New Connection Wizard.
2. If necessary, follow the instructions to install the PCS Software Modem.
3. Use the New Connection Wizard to create a new Connection.
4. Click “GO”.
5. Click the Connection that you created in step 3.
Disconnecting:
1. Click “Stop”.
